Community

100 VIEWS Project encourages the school to reach out into the community in as many ways as it can. It has the potential to help build a stronger sense of community.

In celebrating the chosen ‘icon’ the school is encouraging the community to make contact with its own school, particularly in the lead up to the Festival phase. The 100 VIEWS Project encourages contact within the school itself, with other schools, with community groups, local organizations, local businesses, government bodies and so on.

It embraces the notion that every community member has something to offer. It could be a memory, a recipe, a photograph, an article, a book, a webpage, a pattern, a house plan, a painting, a dance, all kinds of amazing things. But most of all it’s the engagement with local community that’s important. For example, Bondi Beach Public School set out to video 100 interviews with local community members from all walks of life as part of their 100 VIEWS of their area.

What About Our Community?

In order to get a snapshot view of the local community, the following questions may be asked.

Who are we as a community?

Who were we 100 years ago?

Who might we be in 100 years?

Who could we interview to get a cross-section of opinions about our community?
