Evaluation of 100 Views from Rebecca and Adam Ordish
We have spent quite a bit of time at Riviera International College on this trip to Kathmandu and have been amazed at the impact since the 100 Views workshops. They now have special time every Friday for art, poetry, sport, magazine writing classes. The kids can choose which ones they are interested in attending. The school looks fantastic with lots of different poems and artworks around the place. They also produce a poster of articles in English and Nepali each week which include articles, poems, interesting facts etc. The teachers have been so proud of all of this. This goes to show the success of the workshops and it is really great to see that the teachers have taken the skills and implemented them in a “Nepali” way. For us, this really is the ideal outcome so thank you!
However, being Nepalis, they have not really focused on the 100 poems and artwork as requested! The kids seem to have all done these in their notebooks/art books but they haven’t been collected together in any meaningful way and we have really struggled to get them!
It has also been a little challenging due to a number of strikes (yes, that aspect of life here has not improved), mid-term exams for the kids, and then the Dashain festival (which is the equivalent of Christmas for us). Not the best time to be getting things done quickly here.
Having said that, we are confident that we will have them all as requested for the website prior to the doco launch! It will all look fantastic. It’s just one of the challenges of working with Nepal that things take a bit of time, despite the clearest of instructions!
